Our Staff

Adoption Bridges of Kentuckiana has an experienced and dedicated team of professionals on our staff.  We are committed to provide support and assistance to those who have made the loving choice of adoption.

Julie Barkley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bellarmine University and her Master’s of Social Work from Spalding University.  Julie has more than twelve years experience in crisis and mental health work.  She has an additional ten years of experience focused solely on adoption.

Nicole Cardwell earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Louisville.  Nicole has been devoted to assisting birth parents, adoptive families, and children at Adoption Bridges since 2009.

Emily Baumann, MSSW, LCSW   Emily earned her Masters of Science in Social Work with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville Kent School of Social Work in 2011. Emily has worked with children and families in various mental health settings for the past six years.

In addition to our staff members, we have contract workers throughout the region that assist with birth parent services and adoptive parent support groups.  Current contract counselors include:

Sharon Sapienza Sharon is our birthparent advocate serving Louisville and surrounding areas.  She is very dedicated to walking birth parents through every step of their adoption experience.

Natalie Shafer, MSW, CSW Natalie works with birth parents and provides pregnancy counseling services in the Lexington area and as well as Northern and Eastern Kentucky.  She also facilitates the Central Kentucky area Adoptive Parent Support Group.

Tammi Miller Based out of Bowling Green, Tammi serves birth parents all throughout Western Kentucky including Henderson, Owensboro, Paducah, and Hopkinsville.  She also leads the Western Kentucky adoptive parent support group.    

Cecil Williams, MSW, CSW Cecil leads an adoptive parent support group that meets in the Pikeville area.
